Dandaragan Organic Beef nominated for Delicious Magazine Produce Awards 2012
We have been nominated for ABC Delicious magazine’s Produce Awards 2012 in recognition of our commitment to quality and sustainable food production.
The national awards program recognises and rewards Australian producers of fresh, seasonal food that is produced with integrity and ecologically sustainable farming methods and production processes.
Maggie Beer, Matt Moran and WA’s very own Hadleigh Troy from Restaurant Amusé will be among the food luminaries to judge the awards. Winners will be announced in June.
While winning awards does not change what we do, they are an affirmation of all the hard work we put into the long-term health of our land, our cattle and, ultimately, our customers. And of course, the great taste of dry-aged Dandaragan Organic Beef.
Some of our sustainable farming initiatives include:
- A holistic land management system that mimics the grazing patterns of wild herding animals.
- Low stress stock handling techniques.
- Planting perennial grasses to supplement annual winter pastures- providing fresh green fodder during summer, locking carbon into the soil, improving soil microbiology and helping to combat soil erosion.
- Participation in two carbon sequestration pilot trials.
- Revegetation programs to restore bush along creek lines and to provide wildlife corridors throughout the property.
- Commitment to producing food with low food miles.
The summer rains have really greened up our paddocks that have been planted to perennial pastures - as you can see in the photo to the left. The cattle love having fresh, green pastures in the middle of summer and it inspires us to plant more of these fantastic grasses across out properties.
